From Our Desk - March 25, 2020

I hope everyone is safe and healthy. I am holding up well, all things considered. I have moments of optimism and gratitude yet also moments of feeling helpless and frustrated. There’s a thousand other feelings in between those. However, each day gets a little bit better as we become more accustomed to this new reality. I’m inspired by those who are digging deep to find the strength to push forward despite the disruption they face, however big or small it is. Do not minimize your feelings even if they seem small in the grand scheme of things. Vent and get it off your chest - it’s more important now than ever.

I’d like to share my immense gratitude to everyone on the front lines. There are so many who do not have the luxury of quarantining during a global pandemic (yes, it is a luxury to be stuck inside). Keep them in your thoughts and send them good vibes, words of encouragement and even a treat, if you can. I’m also sending encouragement to those who have lost financial stability. It is a terrifying thought and I hope better days are around the corner. I hope our communities can find ways to help people stay on their feet.

Here’s what crossed my desk (a.k.a. kitchen counter) this week:

  1. Danny Meyer’s leadership stood out to me amidst the suffering the restaurant industry is facing. Here’s one of his tweets. He has contributed his entire compensation to a fund to support his laid-off employees and his executive team has taken a significant pay cut. If you are looking to support your favorite restaurants, consider buying gift cards now to be used later here. Can be used for date nights, birthday parties, and girls night once we’re free again.

  2. Balance all that screen time with some reading. Recommendations here including one from my friend, Marisa! I can’t wait to read outside once it’s a bit warmer.

  3. If you have little ones at home that you are trying to teach while working from home, here’s a site full of lessons that can help pass some time.

  4. Yale’s most popular course is being offered for free, The Science of Well Being. Would you try it out?

  5. In case you missed it, here are our tips on how to leave work stress at work. Some suggestions may have to be adapted to be quarantine friendly!

Take care, everyone!
