Are Pink Nails Professional?

IMG_1150.GIF

78% of At Her Desk followers voted that this nail polish shade of pink is appropriate at the office, lower than the 95% of followers who voted that red lipstick is appropriate at the office in a previous poll.

There clearly remains some stigma against wearing bright nail polish colors at the office as it doesn’t appear professional.

So does it really matter what color your nails are at work? Like most of you, our view is no.

Whether your nails are bright pink, red or purple, it shouldn’t impact how others at the office perceive you. What matters is that you look put together, particularly if you are in a client facing role and can get called into meetings at a moment’s notice.

I keep mess-free nail polish remover pads at my desk for moments when I catch myself “getting sloppy” at not removing chipped polish in a timely manner. The key is to look presentable and sharp - the color itself shouldn’t matter.

One exception to this is when you’re interviewing. Keep the color muted so it doesn’t distract your interviewer.

Other than that, if bright pink floats your boat the next time you’re getting a manicure (just like Barbie pink called out my name during vacation and now am rocking it at the office), don’t hesitate because it’s not a “work color” - go for it!
